The North American Women's Baseball League (www.nawbl.com) is currently operated in Nashua, NH with the financial backing of Nashua Pride owner Jim Stabile. The NAWBL consists of four teams who play a sixteen game season from June through August. The athletes are women varying in age from high school freshman to early forties. The league is competitive with a focus based on developing young talented girls who have no other outlet to play baseball.
The NAWBL began under inaugural owner Nick Lopardo of the Lynn-based North Shore Spirit. The league operated from 2003 through 2005 within the North Shore Spirit organization. Its all-star tournament team traveled to several national and international women's baseball competitions, including Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Japan.
Previously, the NAWBL had been known as the New England Women's Baseball League. It functioned as a player-run organization whose members provided funding for operating costs. The league played at many fields in the metro Boston area.
