The Michigan State League operated at varied classifications during it's tenure. As follows: (1886, 1889-94) unclassified; (1895) Class B; (1896) unclassified; (1897, 1902, 1911-14) Class D; *(1926) Class B; (1940-41) Class C.

*In 1926, the teams from Central League and Michigan-Ontario League merged. Called West Michigan League in 1910.

1886    Battle Creek MI, , Bay City MI, Grand Rapids MI, Jackson MI, Kalamazoo MI, Saginaw MI

1889    Grand Rapids MI, Greenville MI, Jackson MI, Kalamazoo MI, Lansing MI, Saginaw MI and Kalamazoo, MI which moved to Flint, MI during the season.

1890    Manistee MI, Muskegon MI, and Port Huron MI entered the league; Jackson, Lansing and Saginaw left the league.

1891    Bay City MI, Detroit MI, Indianapolis IN and Toledo OH entered the league; Flint, Manistee, Muskegon, and Port Huron left the league.

1892    Battle Creek MI, Jackson MI, Manistee MI, Muskegon MI and Saginaw MI entered the league; Detroit, Indianapolis and Toledo left the league.

1893    Benton Harbor, MI and Owosso, MI entered the league; Battle Creek, Bay City, Greenville, Jackson, Muskegon and Saginaw left the league.

1894    Battle Creek, MI and Kalamazoo, MI entered the league; Benton Harbor and Grand Rapdis left the league.

1895    Adrian MI, Lansing MI and Port Huron MI entered the league; Manistee left the league. Battle Creek, MI moved to Jackson MI during the season..

1896    Manistee MI, Muskegon MI, and Saginaw MI entered the league; Owosso left the league.

1897    Bay City, Mi entered the league; Adrian, Manistee and Muskegon left the league.

1899   Bay City MI, Jackson MI, Kalamazoo MI, Lansing MI, Reed City MI and Saginaw MI. Kalamazoo move to Flint, MI during the season.

1901    Battle Creek MI, Flint MI, Grand Rapids MI, Lansing MI, Muskegon MI, and Saginaw MI. Saginaw moved to Jackson, MI during the season.

1910    Cadilliac MI, Holland MI,  Muskegon MI and Traverse City MI

1911    Boyne City, MI and Manistee, MI entered the league.

1912    Ludington, MI entered the league; Holland left the league .

1913    No teams entered or left the league.

1914    No teams entered or left the league. Manistee franchise moved to Belding, MI during the season.

1919    Cadilliac MI, Ludington MI, Newaygo MI, Reed City MI

1926    Bay City MI, Flint MI, Grand Rapids MI, Kalamazoo MI, Ludington MI, Muskegon MI, Port Huron MI and Saginaw MI. Flint franchise moved to Charlotte, MI.

1940    Flint MI, Grand Rapids MI, Lansing MI, Muskegon MI, Saginaw MI and St Joseph, MI.

1941    No teams entered or left the league.

Note 1 - Not sure of the Michigan State League played as Michigan State League or as West Michigan League (teams that might have played - Cadillac, Greenville, Hollland, Ludington, Manistee, Muskegon, Traverse City)
