- 1909 - Benjamin Shibe, of Bala, Pennsylvania, obtains a patent for a cork-center baseball. Spalding will license the idea and manufacture a ball.

- 1914 - At Baker Bowl, Honus Wagner joins Cap Anson as the only members of the 3,000 hits. It comes in Wagner's 2,332nd game. Nap Lajoie will join the club in September. (Later calculations put the date at June 30th or July 4th).

- 1946 - The New York Giants' Mel Ott became the first major league manager to be ejected in both ends of a doubleheader. The Pittsburgh Pirates won both games, 2–1 and 5–1.

- 1961 - Los Angeles Angels pitcher Ryne Duren sets an American League record with seven straight strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox.
- 1963 - The Houston Colt 45s beat the San Francisco Giants 3–0 in the major leagues' first Sunday night game. The exception is made because of Houston's oppressive daytime heat.
- 1966 - The Minnesota Twins rocks the Kansas City Royals with the first five-home run inning in American League history. Rich Rollins, Zoilo Versalles, Tony Oliva, Don Mincher and Harmon Killebrew connect in the seventh inning to give the Twins a 9-4 victory.

- 1990 - Eddie Murray of the Los Angeles Dodgers homers from each side of the plate for the tenth time in his career (the second time in 1990) to tie Mickey Mantle's major-league record. The Dodgers beat San Diego 5–4 in 11 innings.
2000s[]
- 2005 - Omar Vizquel of the San Francisco Giants plays in his 2,179th game as a shortstop, passing Dave Concepción for sole possession of sixth place on the career list. Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio holds the record of 2,581.
