Jason Heyward (born August 9, 1989) is a professional baseball outfielder for the Atlanta Braves NL baseball team. In 2009, he played for the Class AA Mississippi Braves team in the Atlanta Braves organization. He made the Braves' opening day roster in 2010 and homered in his first major league plate appearance on opening day.

Amateur careerEdit

Heyward was an AFLAC All-American prep first baseman for Henry County High School in McDonough, Georgia.[1] Jason Heyward has dominated his way through Rome, (Class-A affiliate of Braves) and Myrtle Beach, (High-A affiliate of Braves) to Mississippi. He posted up a .296 batting average, with 10 homers, 31 RBI and 4 stolen bases.

Professional careerEdit

He was selected 14th overall by Atlanta in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, and signed a deal worth $1.7 million ($170,000 more than MLB's slot recommendation of $1.53 million, and the same as the 2006 14th-slot amount that the Toronto Blue Jays gave Travis Snider)[2] on August 12, 2007.[3]

He was ranked as the Braves' second-best prospect entering the 2008 season by Baseball America[4], being listed by the publication as the organization's best power hitter and having the best strike-zone discipline in the system. The publication also ranked Heyward as the fifth best overall prospect in baseball.

Heyward is represented by Career Sports & Entertainment.

Heyward now plays for the Mississippi Braves, a minor league team affiliated with the Atlanta Braves.

Heyward was promoted to the Braves Class AA Mississippi on July 3. Heyward was named the number one prospect in Baseball Americas Midseason Top 25 prospects. Jason Heyward starts RF and wears #11 on his jersey for the Class AA Mississippi Braves, affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
