Matthew Peter Gedman (born September 26, 1988 in Framingham, Massachusetts) is a college baseball player for the UMass Minutemen. Matt is the son of former Red Sox catcher Rich Gedman, and the brother of fellow Minuteman Mike Gedman. He is currently a junior and the starting shortstop, and has been also known to play third base.

Early Life[]
Matt is the son of Richard and Sherry Gedman. He has a brother, Michael, and a sister, Marissa. He is currently majoring in Sports Management. Gedman was a four-year letterwinner under coach Ed Gallagher at the Belmont Hill School, where he also was a three-year letter winner in ice hockey (He was named the USHR goaltender of the year his senior year). Gedman was named Independent School League all-star three times from 2005-2007. In his senior year, Gedman batted .511 with 9 home runs and 51 RBIs.
College[]
Gedman made his first collegiate appearance as a Freshman in the second game of a double-header against Army on March 16, 2008. He finished his freshman year batting .238 (5-21) with 3 RBI, 2 runs, and a stolen base.
In his sophomore year, Gedman started in 36 games for the Minutemen, usually batting 8th and playing shortstop. Finished the season with a .282 batting average, 18 runs, 8 doubles, 3 home runs and 25 RBI. Gedman had 10 multi-hit games, and seven games in which he drove in multiple RBI. He hit his first collegiate home run on March 22, pinch hitting in a game against the Richmond Spiders.
Gedman began the 2010 season as the Minutemen's starting shortstop.
