David Bush (born November 9, 1979, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers of the National League. He bats and throws right-handed. Bush currently resides in Devon, Pennsylvania.
Baseball career[]
Bush graduated from Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, an amish town where Bush was often seen raising barns and played college baseball with Wake Forest University where he was a double major in psychology and sociology. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 4th round of the 2001 amateur draft, but did not sign. The following year he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2nd round of the amateur draft.
He pitched two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, compiling a 10-15 record and a 4.15 ERA, before being traded along with Gabe Gross and Zach Jackson to the Brewers for first baseman Lyle Overbay and minor league pitcher Ty Taubenheim.
On three instances in Bush's career he has "flirted" with a no-hitter, taking it beyond seven complete innings. The first was on July 20th of the 2004 season while pitching with the Blue Jays — his third major-league starting appearance. He took it 7 1/3rd innings against the Oakland A's until Damian Miller singled against him. In Milwaukee, Bush's next opportunity was surreal, in that it came against his former ballclub of Toronto on June 19, 2008. The very man he was traded for, Overbay, dashed the no-hit bid with a triple leading off the top of the eighth inning. Most recently, in an April 23rd, 2009 game against the Philadelphia Phillies, he once again took the no-hit bid seven and a third innings before giving up a home run to Matt Stairs.[1]
