- January 9 - The National and American Leagues agreed to co-exist as major leagues.
- May 17 - Cleveland and the New York Highlanders played a game in Columbus, Ohio, because Sunday games were banned in Cleveland.
- June 25 - Boston Beaneaters' pitcher Wiley Piatt pitched two complete games against Pittsburgh and lost both of them.
- July 2 - Ed Delahanty of Washington died in a fall from a railroad bridge over Niagra falls.
- September 17 - Chick Fraser of the Cubs pitched a no-hitter against the Phillies.
- September 18 - An informal agreement between the pennant-winning teams called for a best-of-nine postseason championship series between the two titlists.
- December 18 - Ban Johnson was elected to another term as American League president with his salary set at $10,000.
